About Bahamas and its flag
The Bahamian national flag combines a black triangle at the hoist with aquamarine, gold, and aquamarine horizontal bands. Its form is set out in the Flags and Coat of Arms (Regulation) Act.
Flag design and meaning
A black equilateral triangle rises from the hoist and points into three equal horizontal bands: aquamarine, gold, and aquamarine. The Act’s heraldic description identifies the same arrangement as an azure field with a gold horizontal band and a black pile issuing from the dexter side.

History and adoption
The Flags and Coat of Arms (Regulation) Act received assent on 4 July 1973 and commenced on 10 July 1973, defining the National Flag in its schedule. The Bahamas Independence Order also came into operation on 10 July. The Embassy’s historical account describes the Union Jack being lowered and the new aquamarine, gold, and black flag raised at Clifford Park on that date.
