About Saint Lucia and its flag
Saint Lucia’s national flag is a cerulean-blue field with a centred black, white, and gold triangular device. The Government identifies Saint Lucian artist Dunstan St. Omer as its designer. Its single tall geometric emblem, rather than stripes or an arms badge, gives the flag a distinctive appearance.
Flag design and meaning
The field is plain cerulean blue. At its centre, the official description places a black triangular shape over a white one and a gold triangle over the black; the black shape ends in a three-pointed point. The triangles share a base equal to one-third of the flag’s length.
- Cerulean-blue field: The Government of Saint Lucia says cerulean blue represents fidelity and reflects the tropical sky and surrounding Caribbean and Atlantic waters.
- Gold triangle: The official explanation associates gold with Caribbean sunshine and prosperity.

History and adoption
Government archive material says the flag was first raised as associated statehood began, on the night of 28 February 1967. A Government Gazette records a flag for 1 March 1967–22 February 1979 and labels a later official version as adopted on 22 February 2002. The record therefore reflects successive specifications, not one uncomplicated adoption date.
