About Tuvalu and its flag
Tuvalu’s National Flag is legally defined as an azure-blue field with the Union Flag in the upper-left and nine yellow stars across the right side. The stars are not merely decorative: Te Papa explains that all nine Tuvaluan fenua, or islands, are represented by fetu, meaning stars, on the flag.
Flag design and meaning
The current statutory schedule calls for an azure-blue background, nine yellow stars lying diagonally across the right side from the top-right corner, and the Union Flag in the top-left corner. It sets the flag’s proportions at 1:2, with the stars covering half its area and the Union Flag one quarter.

History and adoption
The current text is published in the 2022 Revised Edition of the Tuvalu National Flag Act. Its endnotes preserve a clear legislative sequence: Act 4 of 1995 commenced on 22 December 1995, then Act 2 of 1997 substituted both flag schedules and commenced on 11 April 1997. This statutory history is more precise than treating the present design as having only one adoption date.
