About Gambia and its flag
The Gambia’s constitutional flag has horizontal bands of red, white, blue, white and green. Its legal construction is 27 units across by 18 units down, with a central blue band broader than either white separator. The country’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations identifies the blue as a symbol of the River Gambia.
Flag design and meaning
The constitutional schedule gives a 27:18 proportion and, from top to bottom, bands of red at 6⅓ units, white at 1, blue at 4⅓, white at 1 and green at 6⅓. The narrow white stripes separate the central blue band from the larger red and green fields.

History and adoption
Government sources commemorate The Gambia’s political independence on 18 February 1965. The constitutional flag definition appears in the 1997 Constitution, in its 2002 revision, which assigns the national flag the Schedule 1 design. How to recognise this flag
