The National Identity Act 1989 declares the flag described in its schedule, and reproduced in a further schedule, to be the National Flag of Kiribati.
Flag design and meaning
The composition divides visually into a red sky and a blue sea. In the upper red section, a gold frigate bird flies over a gold rising sun. Three horizontal, wavy white bands cross the blue lower section, giving the flag an unmistakably maritime silhouette.
