Kyrgyzstan’s State Flag is a red rectangle centred on a golden sun with forty evenly spaced straight rays. Inside the sun is a red tunduk, the crown opening of a Kyrgyz yurt. The law fixes the flag’s width at three-fifths of its length. A government Flag Day event in 2026 marked the design’s 34th anniversary, reflecting its original 1992 approval.
Flag design and meaning
The legally specified field is red. At its centre is a golden circular solar disk with forty straight, evenly radiating rays; a red tunduk appears within that disk. The flag’s width-to-length proportion is 3:5. The technical specification requires produced flags to conform to the approved official model.

History and adoption
The Supreme Council approved the first flag of independent Kyrgyzstan on 3 March 1992. The current legal description is governed by the 2004 state-symbols law and its technical specification. Law No. 208 of 22 December 2023 amended that law; the current design uses straight rays. These are distinct milestones, so the 1992 approval should not be treated as the only relevant design date.
