Oman’s national flag is a red, white and green design with a white state emblem in its red hoist panel. The emblem combines a sheathed khanjar and belt with two crossed swords. The Foreign Ministry dates the flag’s adoption by royal decree to 17 December 1970 and reports an update by royal decree on 22 May 2004.
Flag design and meaning
The rectangular flag has a vertical red panel at the hoist and three horizontal bands across the remainder: white at the top, red in the middle and green at the bottom. A white national emblem appears in the upper part of the red hoist panel. It shows a sheathed curved khanjar and belt laid over two crossed swords.
