About Iran and its flag
Article 18 of Iran’s Constitution describes the official flag as green, white and red with the emblem of the Islamic Republic and the inscription “Allah’u Akbar.” A 1980 Revolutionary Council resolution provides the detailed treatment of the emblem, script and repeated inscription.
Flag design and meaning
The colours are ordered green, white and red. The special emblem of the Islamic Republic is red at the centre, while “Allah Akbar” appears in white square Kufic script along the colour boundaries: eleven repetitions in green and eleven in red.

History and adoption
Article 18 supplies the constitutional description without setting out all construction details. In a resolution dated 15 Tir 1359, the Islamic Revolutionary Council specified the red central emblem, the Kufic wording, its 22 repetitions, and reference to standards issued by Iran’s standards institution.
